Israel Explores Options to Relocate Gazans to African Nations
Israel discusses voluntary relocation programs for Gaza Palestinians with African nations, including South Sudan and Somaliland, offering economic aid and investment packages.

Israel is reportedly exploring initiatives to allow the voluntary relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to select African countries, including South Sudan and Somaliland. The proposed plan would include economic aid and investment packages, though it has sparked official denials and skepticism from some quarters.
According to recent reports, Israeli officials have been in talks with several African states to facilitate a “voluntary migration” program for Gazans. South Sudan, often called the world’s youngest nation after receiving UN recognition in 2011, is reportedly considering participation due to potential economic and political benefits. Sources told The New York Times that Israel and its allies could provide extensive support through international investment, infrastructure development, and cooperation in agriculture and technology. The initiative could also enhance South Sudan’s diplomatic standing and strengthen ties with Israel and Western countries.
In addition to South Sudan, Israel is exploring agreements with other territories, including Somaliland, a semi-autonomous region near the Horn of Africa. However, officials note that Somaliland faces logistical challenges due to its small population of around 3.5 million, making it difficult to accommodate a significant influx of Gazans without risking internal demographic instability.
It remains unclear whether any of these discussions will culminate in a concrete agreement. No country has publicly committed to accepting Gazans, and official statements have ranged from cautious acknowledgment to outright denial. Nonetheless, the talks signal Israel’s interest in seeking broad, international solutions beyond direct military engagement in Gaza.
If successfully implemented, the program could drastically reshape the living conditions of many Palestinians while altering Israel’s security landscape.
