“Crime of the Century Must End”: Annie Lennox Calls for Global Strike Against Israel
Singer Annie Lennox calls for worldwide Thursday strikes to protest Israel's actions in Gaza, joining Palestinian-led campaign aimed at creating economic pressure for policy change.

Scottish singer Annie Lennox has joined a controversial global campaign calling on citizens worldwide to halt all spending every Thursday in protest of Israel’s actions in Gaza. The initiative, which launched today, aims to create a “political and economic shock” to pressure decision-makers and disrupt global markets.
In a pointed Instagram post shared with hundreds of thousands of followers on Wednesday, Lennox urged a global audience to participate in what organizers are calling a “worldwide strike for Gaza,” set to take place every Thursday. The campaign is designed to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis and create tangible economic disruption in Western consumption patterns.
The initiative was founded by Palestinian journalist and activist Bisan Odeh, who won an Emmy last year for her web series “I am Bisan from Gaza and I Am Still Alive.” The campaign is supported by The Humanity Project, an international civic movement connecting communities, organizations, and social movements around human rights and humanitarian causes.
Lennox, 70, known for her Pro-Palestinian positions, reinforced the call for action in her post, which has been widely shared and endorsed by fellow Pro-Palestinian celebrities including Elena Hadid, singer Paloma Faith, actress Marsha Cross, and Shirley Manson of Garbage.
In an accompanying video, Lennox addressed her followers directly:
“I had hopes for a ceasefire. I had hopes for an end to this genocide. It’s absolute madness. Normal people across the world, they see it. They know what it is: massacre, slaughter, tens of thousands of children whose lives are destroyed. Even if they survive, their existence is traumatic. They’ve been living in hell for nearly two years. This is the crime of this century, and it must stop. Join the global strike. Peace and love.”
She concluded her message with a call to action:
“They are determined to carry out the genocide they have declared. I urge you to do everything in your power to resist this atrocity.”
