The IDF has officially confirmed the death of "Abu Obeida," the masked spokesperson and head of Hamas's propaganda division. In a briefing, IDF spokesperson Brigadier General Efi Defrin revealed a new image of Abu Obeida, whose real name is Hudhayfa Kahlout, alongside other senior Hamas leaders who were killed in the same strike: military wing head Muhammad Deif and Khan Younis Brigade commander Rafe Salameh. Also killed was the head of Hamas's military intelligence, Muhammad Odeh.

The IDF states that Kahlout was a key figure in Hamas's psychological warfare and propaganda campaigns. During the October 7 attacks, Kahlout was responsible for distributing cameras to terrorists to document the atrocities and for releasing the horrific videos of the massacre, as well as the initial hostage videos. According to military sources, his elimination will have significant consequences for Hamas's military wing, as he was one of the last remaining members of the original leadership that orchestrated the October 7 attacks.

The strike that killed Kahlout was carried out based on precise intelligence from the Shin Bet, with measures taken to minimize civilian casualties, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance. According to the IDF, Kahlout was a "master terrorist" and a key figure in a psychological warfare apparatus that has shaken Israel and resonated internationally, particularly in the Arab world.

Kahlout had been the masked face of Hamas's psychological warfare and hostage messaging since 2007. His death is considered a major blow to Hamas's ability to manipulate and terrorize audiences as the IDF continues to dismantle the organization's chain of command. Hamas has not provided verifiable proof of life that would contradict Israel's claim. The IDF spokesperson affirmed that the military will "reach all terrorists, everywhere."
