Portugal Plans To Recognize Palestine Soon
The Portuguese Foreign Minister said that the government would "consult" with the President and parliament regarding recognition of the state of Palestine.

Portugal plans to recognize the state of Palestine, possibly as early as September at the next United Nations General Assembly, according to a report today (Thursday) by the Jerusalem Post.
The Portuguese Foreign Minister said that his country, which has already declared and arms embargo against Israel over the war and supporting Palestine joining the United Nations as a member several months ago.
He said that Portugal and 14 other countries agreed in principle to recognize Palestine, with each having their own set of conditions and requirements. One such is Canada, which has premised its recognition of Palestine on democratic reforms within the Palestinian Authority, including the holding of elections which will bar Hamas, which remains either the most popular or the second most popular party in both Judea and Samaria and in the Gaza Strip.
