Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the recent strike against senior Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, was a "wholly independent Israeli operation." The Prime Minister's Office released a statement asserting that "Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility." This public stance comes amid multiple reports in Israeli media claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump was not only aware of the planned attack but had given it his "green light."

A senior Israeli official reportedly told Channel 12 that President Trump had approved the strike, a claim that aligns with a warning Trump issued two days prior on his social media platform. In his post, Trump gave Hamas a "last warning" to accept a new ceasefire proposal, adding, "This is my last warning, there will not be another one!"

The strike reportedly targeted a meeting of Hamas leaders, including longtime leader Khaled Mashaal, whom Israel famously failed to assassinate in a 1997 operation in Jordan. This latest action in Doha represents a significant escalation, as it is the first known Israeli strike on Qatari soil, a country that has been a key mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

While Israel is publicly emphasizing its sole responsibility for the strike, the reports of U.S. foreknowledge and approval introduce a complex dynamic. The strike comes at a delicate time in the peace process, with Hamas reportedly gathered to discuss the latest U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal. The attack on the territory of a U.S. ally, which also hosts a major American military base, raises questions about the extent of Washington's role and its commitment to Qatar's security.
