A gunman unleashed a deadly rampage inside a prominent Midtown Manhattan office tower Monday evening, killing five people, including a New York City police officer, and wounding several others before dying by suicide on an upper floor, officials confirmed.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, entered the 44-story high-rise at 345 Park Avenue just after 6:30 p.m., armed with an AR-15-style rifle, according to law enforcement sources. The building houses corporate offices for Blackstone Group and the National Football League.

Tamura, dressed in a blazer and sunglasses, was seen on surveillance footage walking calmly toward the building’s entrance before opening fire in the lobby area as evening commuters rushed out of elevators and offices.

Panic quickly spread as witnesses described a barrage of gunfire echoing through the skyscraper. "It sounded like a machine gun. I ran for my life," one employee said, visibly shaken, while receiving medical attention outside.

Emergency services swarmed the scene, with heavily armed NYPD units, fire crews, and EMS blocking off the surrounding blocks. Helicopters hovered above the building as officers cleared floor by floor searching for survivors, and the shooter.

Authorities later found Tamura dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor, alongside more victims. His weapon, a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 rifle, was recovered at the scene.

Among the dead was a 36-year-old NYPD officer assigned to paid security detail at the building. A source said he had served in the 47th Precinct and was a father-to-be, with a pregnant wife due in just weeks.

At least six others were injured, including workers inside the building. Graphic video captured police performing CPR on victims in the street, while others evacuated with their hands raised.

Tamura reportedly held a valid concealed carry license from Nevada, set to expire in 2027. A vehicle registered in his name was found nearby.

As chaos unfolded, two individuals were detained near the scene, one allegedly shouting “Free Palestine” and insisting he wasn’t the shooter. Authorities emphasized there is no indication Tamura acted with accomplices.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch later confirmed on X that the situation was "contained" and that Tamura had acted alone.

The motive remains under investigation. The FBI, NYPD’s bomb squad, and federal agents were all seen on-site well into the night.

Mayor Eric Adams urged New Yorkers to steer clear of the area as law enforcement continued to process the scene and identify victims.

This is one of the deadliest shootings in recent NYC history and comes amid renewed debates around public safety, gun access, and security protocols in high-risk commercial centers.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow as new details emerge.
