Trump Threatens Trade Retaliation Against Canada Over Palestinian Statehood Recognition
Trump lashes out at Canada’s support for Palestinian statehood and warns of trade consequences, while also taking aim at India and Russia.

In a pair of fiery posts on Truth Social, President Donald Trump threatened trade repercussions against Canada following its announcement of support for recognizing a Palestinian state.
“Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine. That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them. Oh’ Canada!!!” Trump wrote in his signature caps-heavy style at.
The statement marks one of the most direct threats yet toward a key U.S. ally over its foreign policy decisions. Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, announced its intention to support Palestinian statehood during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September, part of a growing wave of Western nations.
Trump’s message strongly implies that any future trade negotiations with Canada, could be jeopardized by Ottawa’s position on the Palestinian issue.
The post comes amid a broader shift in Western sentiment, with countries like the UK, France, Ireland, and now Canada, expressing varying degrees of support for Palestinian statehood.
In a second post, Trump widened his scope of criticism to include India and Russia.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” he wrote. “We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!”
The reference to Dmitry Medvedev comes after the former Russian president made a series of inflammatory comments toward the West, including threats related to NATO expansion and Ukraine
