A 34-year-old woman from Harish is under investigation for the alleged attempted drowning of her 69-year-old mother-in-law, a resident of Pardes Hanna who suffers from dementia. The unusual incident occurred last Tuesday at Sdot Yam beach, where a passerby intervened after witnessing what he believed to be an attempted murder.

According to a report by Kan News, the younger woman brought her mother-in-law to the beach and took her into the water. A short time later, a man on the beach called the police, claiming he saw a woman attempting to drown another. He then entered the water himself and pulled the elderly woman to safety while her daughter-in-law swam farther out to sea, allegedly claiming she was "swimming to Cyprus." The suspect was apprehended by police and marine patrol officers in the deeper water after she had removed her clothes.

In her interrogation, the suspect denied the allegations, offering a different version of events. "I love my mother-in-law and don't want to hurt her. I didn't try to drown her," she said. She claimed her mother-in-law was "burned" by the sun, so she brought her into the water to "cool her body down and wash her face." She explained that a man from the beach then suddenly came and grabbed her mother-in-law "by force," which caused her to panic and swim out to sea. In a bizarre statement, she also reportedly said, "I want to dance with the angels of October 7."

The suspect's attorney, Liran Zilberman, stated that his client is "embarrassed by the allegations against her" and is confident the case will be closed without an indictment. The woman has no known history of mental illness. Due to her dementia, the mother-in-law is unable to provide a testimony. A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for the suspect to determine if she is fit to stand trial.
