Metallic Messenger: Robot Dog Takes Animal Rights to Monterrey’s Streets

In the bustling neighborhoods of Monterrey, Mexico, a small, AI-powered canine named “Waldog” is turning heads and starting conversations, according to Reuters. Designed to walk, run, chat, and even joke, the beagle-sized robot is on a mission to spread awareness about animal welfare and adoption.

Equipped with a cheerful, metallic voice, Waldog engages children and adults alike.

“Hi, I’m Waldog, and I’m here to give a voice to those who don’t have one,” the robot told amused residents in Santa Catarina, referring to stray and abused animals.

The initiative comes from Federal Senator Waldo Fernandez, an outspoken animal rights advocate who personally purchased the $4,000 robot and named it after himself. Operated by remote control and accompanied by an adult handler, Waldog not only promotes compassion toward animals but will also help identify street hazards like potholes and trash, and even keep track of stray dogs.

While robot dogs worldwide have been deployed for rescue missions and border patrols, Waldog’s work is rooted in community engagement. Fernandez says the plan includes visiting schools, plazas, and local events, ensuring that this high-tech pup becomes a familiar and friendly face across Monterrey’s metropolitan area.

And, of course, he’s already something of a celebrity: Waldog’s growing list of duties includes posing for endless selfies with his new human fans.
