Military correspondent Avi Ashkenazi told Israel’s 103FM on Tuesday that a renewed Iranian attack on Israel is no longer a question of “if,” but of “when and where.”

Iran is in a very problematic position, both in terms of its international standing and its domestic climate,” Ashkenazi said. “It will have to explain to its own people how a project it invested in for 30 years collapsed in just 12 days.”

He added that within Israel’s security establishment, the prevailing assessment is that Iran now holds a “blank check” to act, driven by the need to convince both its domestic audience and the international community that it has not lost the confrontation with Israel.

The comments follow a flurry of online speculation Monday, with multiple sources claiming Iran may launch an attack on Israel in the near future. While some military reporters noted that Iran has been significantly weakened since Israel’s Operation “Rising Lion,” they stressed there is currently no confirmed immediate warning of an impending strike.
