Two protesters were detained this Tuesday morning after blocking traffic on the Ayalon Highway near the Rokach interchange, police reported.

According to authorities, emergency calls were received about the disruption, which police said posed a “serious risk to human life and road users.” Officers arrived within minutes, dispersing the demonstrators and reopening the busy highway to vehicles.

During the operation, two suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of disturbing public order. Police also confiscated noise-making devices that were allegedly used during the blockade.

“The Israel Police views the right to protest as a cornerstone of democracy and allows demonstrations within the framework of the law,” the statement read. “However, the police will not permit disorder, obstruction of traffic, or actions that endanger public safety.”

The Ayalon Highway, Tel Aviv’s central traffic artery, has been a frequent focal point for protests in recent years, often drawing swift police response to minimize disruption.
