Houthi drone strikes Ramon Airport

Reports indicate an explosive drone has struck Ramon Airport in southern Israel, just north of Eilat, as reported by Open Source Intel.

Apparently, the drone was able to avoid detection until minutes before impact. The IDF was only notified about it after the drone has already struck the passenger hall of the airport.

Two people were wounded by the drone, and security forces are on scene.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that at 14:35pm, its 101 emergency center in the Negev received a report of a UAV that had fallen near Ramon Airport.

MDA added, "Paramedics are providing medical care at the scene to a man in his 50s in light condition, fully conscious, with shrapnel injuries to his limbs, as well as to several people experiencing anxiety (shock).

Further updates are expected."

The IDF stated:

"The Israel Defense Forces reported that a UAV launched from Yemen struck the passenger hall at Ramon Airport in the Arava region.

No alerts were activated."

The IDF said it is currently investigating the incident.

Israel’s Airports Authority announced that the southern section of Israeli airspace has been closed due to the attack. Emergency teams and airport staff are working on the ground to secure the site and assist passengers (Israel Realtime).

The Houthis posted a threatening message on X, "The real revenge has not begun. What's waiting for them will be much worse." This 'revenge' refers to Israel's deadly "Operation Lucky Drop" which wiped out nearly all of their leaders.

Meanwhile, El Al has seen a significant spike in share price since the Houthi attack.

Middle East analyst Yoni Ben Menachem told Channel 14: “We need to gather intelligence and strike at the right time, especially targeting the head of the snake, Abd Malik al-Houthi.” He added that he thinks that targeted strikes on their leadership is the correct direction in which Israel should continue.

Houthi Official Warns Airports Not Safe, Foreigners Should Leave

Senior Houthi official Nasr al-Din Amer said, “This is a precise and different military operation. The enemy’s airports are not safe, and foreigners should leave for their own safety. There are also other sensitive targets under fire."

The IDF stated that there is no risk of harm to passengers (and everyone can calm down).

MDA provided this update:

The number of casualties from the UAV strike at Ramon Airport has risen to 8 people, including people in light condition: Five of them had shrapnel, blast wounds and minor bruises, and three others suffered from anxiety.

According to Doron Kadosh, the Houthis have carried out six successful attacks on Israeli territory since the start of the Israel-Hamas war:
