Just a day after IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir’s second visit to Gaza in less than four days, a clearer picture is emerging of Israel’s post-operation strategy.

Speaking to commanders in Beit Hanoun, Zamir revealed a new plan involving "novel operational configurations" aimed at increasing Israeli control on the ground, applying sustained pressure on Hamas, and reducing attrition among IDF troops. “We will leverage our strengths, minimize vulnerabilities, and deepen operational gains,” Zamir said. “These changes will intensify Hamas’s distress and stabilize the reality in line with our strategic interests.”

Key Elements of the Plan

According to military sources, the proposal, which has been presented to Israel’s political leadership, is a comprehensive alternative to previously suggested strategies, particularly the much-criticized “humanitarian city” initiative, which many top IDF officers have opposed, calling it “more full of holes than Swiss cheese.”

The new plan envisions expanded combat operations and control over large areas of Gaza—well beyond the current estimated 75% under Israeli hold. Troops would redeploy in force around key logistical corridors, with the goal of steadily shrinking Hamas's territorial grip.

“The central idea,” sources explain, “is that with each passing day, Hamas loses more ground.”

Collapse Hamas, Bring Home the Hostages

The plan was reportedly well received by cabinet ministers and reflects growing frustration over the lack of progress in ceasefire and hostage negotiations with Hamas.

Military officials believe the strategy could swiftly achieve the war’s two primary objectives: the return of all hostages and the collapse of Hamas’s governing and military capabilities.

In the coming days, the government’s direction and whether Zamir’s plan becomes Israel’s next phase in Gaza will become clearer.
