Iran is preparing to launch missiles and additional attacks on American bases in the Middle East, in the event that the United States joins the Israeli campaign against the country; this was reported last night (Wednesday) by the New York Times, citing official sources in the United States who were exposed to intelligence reports on the matter.

The United States has already moved dozens of refueling planes to Europe for the maintenance of the fighter jets tasked with protecting American bases or for active participation in an attack on Iran. Among American officials, there is increasing concern about a widespread war, against the backdrop of Israel's ongoing pressure on the White House to join the campaign.

According to estimates, as is known, Israel cannot significantly attack the underground nuclear facility at Fordow without bunker-busting munitions that are exclusively in the hands of the Americans. If Washington is persuaded to join the attack on the site, American officials assessed "with high certainty" to the newspaper that the Houthis would return to their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

This would be alongside the involvement of pro-Iranian militias in Syria and Iraq, which would attack bases in their regions. Other officials warned that Iran could sow naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to harm American warships in the area.

Israel declared that the aim of the attack on Iran is to destroy its nuclear program, but American officials expressed doubts about Israel's ability to significantly damage the nuclear facilities alone. Some of them expressed concern that the attacks might achieve the opposite result and lead the Iranian regime to conclude that the only way to prevent a future attack is to fully develop a nuclear weapon.
