A terrorist attack at the Ramot Junction in northern Jerusalem early this morning left six people dead and some 20 people injured, as reported by Magen David Adom (MDA). The incident, which unfolded amidst heightened regional tensions, has prompted a swift security response and mourners’ reactions across the city.

Two gunmen opened fire on a crowded bus at the junction, a critical transit point.

MDA paramedics described a chaotic scene, with approximately 15 people wounded, some critically. Emergency services worked feverishly to evacuate the injured, while security forces secured the area.

The Ramot Junction has been a target before, notably in February 2023 when a ramming attack killed three.

Meanwhile, Hamas has not only praised the attack, but is calling for more terror attacks.

International Condemnations

The European Union was among the first to react, with spokesman Anouar El Anouni condemning the attack but also calling for an immediate ceasefire. "We condemn this attack, as we condemn all loss of lives," El Anouni said. "We call for de-escalation, and this shows how necessary and critical a ceasefire is. Civilians on both sides, both Palestinians and Israelis, have suffered for far too long and far too much. And this must end now."

France's President Emmanuel Macron also condemned the shooting but drew criticism for his phrasing. In a social media post, Macron referred to the area of the attack as "East Jerusalem" and said that "only a political solution" can stop the violence. According to Israeli news reports, the remarks were seen as a political jab at Israel.

The United Arab Emirates was the first Arab country to condemn the attack.
