Prime Minister Netanyahu and Russian President Putin held another phone conversation, the third in number in the last three months. Putin pressured Netanyahu to preserve the "territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria."

According to reports from international bodies, Putin asked Netanyahu not to take steps that would harm stability in Syria, while calling for respect for the country's sovereignty. Another source reports that Putin expressed concern about the expansion of Israeli intervention in the country, and demanded closer military cooperation with Moscow.

Netanyahu, for his part, clarified that Israel will not allow Iran to establish itself militarily in Syria or build capacity for weapons supply to Hezbollah on the northern border, and announced that he will continue to maintain this as a political "red line" against the possibility of Iranian takeover.

Recently, Israel has been forced to act in Syria in a series of incidents, the main one being during the Sunni attack on the Druze province in As-Suwayda.
