Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was living with a transgender partner, while him roommate is now a key witness for the FBI, a law enforcement source confirmed. It's unclear whether the roommate and the partner are the same person. The partner, who has not been publicly identified, was in the process of transitioning from male to female and has fully cooperated with the investigation into the fatal shooting.

The cooperation of Robinson’s roommate proved instrumental in the investigation. Authorities revealed that the roommate had shared communications with a friend on the social media platform Discord that described bullet casings similar to those found at the crime scene. The messages also discussed a “need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point.” These communications provided investigators with the evidence needed to file an aggravated murder charge against Robinson.

The shooting occurred after Kirk was asked a question about transgender mass shooters during a college speaking tour. After being asked, "Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” Kirk responded, “Too many.” Moments later, a single bullet struck him in the neck, and he was later pronounced dead.

According to authorities, Robinson, who grew up in a largely conservative family, had become “infatuated by the far left in recent years.” Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated in an interview that it was “very clear to us and to the investigators that this was a person who was deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.” The governor also revealed that a recent family dinner had exposed Robinson's new beliefs during an argument with a relative over Kirk's viewpoints.

Further evidence of the political motive behind the attack was found on the bullet casings at the scene. One casing was inscribed with the words, "Hey fascist! catch!" The rifle used in the shooting, an imported .30-06-caliber Mauser, was found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area. Robinson eventually turned himself in to authorities after speaking with a youth minister and being confronted by his father, a former sheriff's deputy.
