The BBC reports that over 1,000 British troops stand ready to evacuate British citizens still in Lebanon. An estimated 16,000 citizens still remain within the country, according to Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

A previous report from Spiegel noted that Germany also had army transport planes ready to evacuate its citizens from the country in case of an emergency, as Hezbollah retaliation for the assassination of military commander Fuad Shukr is expected to come any day now, a strike which may lead to wider war.
