Butt out, Donnie! Donald Trump will get Zohran Mamdani elected
The President's picking of a fight with the Democratic mayoral nominee is perfect for a candidate running in a largely anti-Trump city.
President Donald Trump posted the following statement against NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani today (Wednesday):
"As President of the United States, I’m not going to let this Communist Lunatic destroy New York. Rest assured, I hold all the levers, and have all the cards. I’ll save New York City, and make it “Hot” and “Great” again, just like I did with the Good Ol’ USA!"
Whether he is doing so just to pick a fight, to gain political advantage, or out of sincere concern over the possibility that Trump's hometown of New York City will be run by a radical communist anti-Israel type, this is going to backfire badly.
Despite some gains in 2024, New York remains a wall-to-wall Democratic town, one very ill-disposed towards Trump as President. Being attacked by Trump is a guaranteed way for Mamdani to gain sympathy, votes, and positive media attention.
New York Jews cannot just up and leave en masse - if Mamdani wins, they are in for a very bad four or eight years, with a mayor indifferent to any antisemitic attacks with any relation to Israel and who supports Hamas openly. If Trump truly cares about Jews - and I believe he does - he needs to sit this one out.
