A British law firm once called Riverway Law, known for its attempt to delist Hamas as a terrorist organization in the U.K., has renamed itself the legal arm of “Riverway to the Sea,” adopting a name tied to a polarizing pro-Palestinian chant. The firm announced the rebranding on June 27, 2025, citing “escalating repression” and the recent U.K. ban on Palestine Action, a pro-Palestinian activist group, as key motivations.

Riverway Law drew attention in April 2025 when it submitted a 106-page application to the Home Office, arguing that Hamas posed “no threat to the UK people” and should be removed from the U.K.’s proscribed organizations list to protect free speech. The effort, led by lawyer Fahad Ansari and backed by Hamas’s international relations head Mousa Abu Marzouk, included a promotional video on the firm’s social media. Former Home Secretary Robert Jenrick reported the firm to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), raising concerns over potential breaches of U.K. sanctions on terror groups and citing Ansari’s social media posts about the Gaza conflict.

In a statement, the firm described its transformation into a “movement-embedded legal organization” aimed at “confronting Zionism” through litigation, legal education, and global coordination. It plans to launch the Riverway Law Centre, merging barrister and solicitor roles to mount “bold, coordinated challenges.” Ansari framed the move as a response to a “live-streamed genocide,” with the firm halting operations to restructure and relaunch.

The name “Riverway to the Sea” echoes the chant “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which is known as a call to eliminate Israel. The Jerusalem Post noted the firm’s pledge to challenge “Zionism." The SRA’s probe into Riverway Law continues, with no outcome reported yet.
