A Stunning Transformation: John Goodman Debuts Dramatic Weight Loss at “The Smurfs” Premiere
Emmy and Golden Globe winner John Goodman shed over 90 kg, debuting his incredible weight loss transformation at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Smurfs" movie.

It’s not easy to steal the spotlight from Rihanna, especially when she arrives pregnant and accompanied by her two adorable children, but at the world premiere of The Smurfs held Sunday at Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles, veteran actor John Goodman managed to do just that.
Goodman, 73, who voices Papa Smurf in the upcoming animated film, wowed attendees as he walked the (blue) carpet with a strikingly slimmed-down appearance, having lost over 90 kilograms. Dressed sharply in a blue suit, black tie, and brown shoes, the beloved actor showcased a healthier version of himself, continuing a personal transformation journey he began nearly two decades ago.
The actor, best known for his roles in Roseanne and countless film performances, previously revealed he once weighed close to 180 kilograms. In 2007, he decided to overhaul his lifestyle, driven by a desire to “live a better life.” In an interview with People, Goodman shared that portion control was key to his sustained success, alongside other significant lifestyle changes.

“It might sound cliché, but I was wasting away,” he said. “It takes a lot of energy and creativity to plan what to eat all the time, but I got tired of looking at myself. You shave in front of the mirror and don’t even want to see yourself, it gets dangerous.”
In addition to cutting back on food, Goodman stopped drinking alcohol, hired a personal trainer, and incorporated regular workouts into his routine.
The Smurfs hits theaters this weekend and features a star-studded voice cast including James Corden, Nick Offerman, and in the Hebrew-language version, Israeli actress Lihi Toledano.
