WATCH: Jewish Billionaire Leonardo Farkas Hands Out Cash at Western Wall
Leonardo Farkas visited Israel this week, giving 500 orphans cash gifts and surprising worshippers at the Kotel with generous handouts
Leonardo Farkas, the Jewish-Chilean billionaire and philanthropist, visited Israel this week and made headlines after distributing 200-shekel bills at the Western Wall.
During a back-to-school fair in Jerusalem for children who lost parents in the ongoing war against Hamas, Farkas addressed the crowd and announced his gift.
"I’m giving 200 shekels to each of the 500 children here," he said. "When I was a struggling piano player, I had no money. Strangers would hand me a dollar, and I promised myself that if God ever blessed me with wealth, I would give back to those in need."
The event was organized by Shay Graucher in partnership with the "Klal Yisrael" organization and "Together We Will Win," supporting widows and orphans of the Iron Swords War.
Farkas, known for his flamboyant acts of charity, was also seen this morning at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, handing out cash to surprised worshippers in a spontaneous act of generosity.
His visit has drawn admiration from many Israelis, who see in him a rare example of sincere giving, especially at a time when thousands of families are coping with the loss and trauma of war.
