The Secret Behind the Art Hanging in Every Jewish Home
The acclaimed Israeli artist, whose work hangs in Jewish homes worldwide, discusses his lifelong passion, his roots in Tzfat, and how he captures the essence of the Jewish people on canvas.

Tucked away in the heart of Jerusalem, a studio is home to a man whose art seems to hang in every Jewish home across the globe. For 15 years, artist Yossi Bitton has been in his Jerusalem studio, creating work that he believes is not just art, but a reflection of the soul of the Jewish nation.
Born and raised in the mystical, artistic city of Tzfat, Bitton's passion for painting began at a young age. He recalls how artists would flock to the city’s famed artist colony every summer, transforming the streets into an open-air classroom. It was there, he says, that he learned the endless techniques of his craft.
"I was born with it, I think," Bitton says to Thank You Hashem reporter, reflecting on his innate need to create. "This is how I express myself."
While he acknowledges that many artists in the world may possess superior technical skills, Bitton insists that his art's widespread appeal is about something deeper.
"It's something to do with the soul," he says to Thank You Hashem. "All the Jewish people love my paintings, Baruch Hashem (with God's blessing). It's a big honor."
Bitton's work, which often depicts the landscapes of Jerusalem, biblical events, and Jewish symbols, transcends mere aesthetics. It's an emotional and spiritual experience for the viewer, bridging the gap between figuration and abstraction. The artist’s commitment to his art and his faith has made his work a beloved fixture in Jewish communities, touching a shared heritage and a sense of connection that resonates far beyond the canvas.
