“Emily in Paris” Star Camille Razat Says Role Hurt Her Acting Career
Camille Razat discusses how her role in Netflix's "Emily in Paris" has affected her acting opportunities, revealing unexpected challenges in securing diverse roles in the industry.

Camille Razat, known worldwide for her role in the hit Netflix series Emily in Paris, recently revealed that her participation in the show has had an unexpected negative impact on her acting career. In an exclusive interview with Israeli media outlet N12, the French actress opened up about how the series’ typecasting effect has made it harder for her to secure diverse roles.
Razat, who stars in the upcoming French film The Pianists, explained that while Emily in Paris brought her global recognition, it also pigeonholed her in the eyes of some directors and casting agents.
“It’s funny because it’s so specific, the world of Emily doesn’t necessarily open doors. Sometimes it even closes them. Even in France,” she said. She added, “There are directors or casting directors who say, ‘Oh, she’s from Emily in Paris? No, we won’t even consider her for a drama.’”
This candid admission highlights the double-edged nature of fame in a breakout role that can bring exposure but also limit future opportunities in an actor’s career.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Razat would not return for the fifth season of Emily in Paris. In recent seasons, her character was involved in a same-sex romance and a fake pregnancy storyline. Upon announcing her departure, Razat expressed gratitude to the cast, crew, and fans, writing:
“I have decided not to continue with Emily in Paris. I leave with much love and appreciation for the cast, crew, and fans who supported me.”
Her experience sheds light on the challenges actors face when they become closely identified with a single, iconic role in today’s global streaming era.
