Demi Lovato is back in the fast lane.

The Grammy-nominated singer and actress dropped her newest single, “Fast,” on Thursday night, offering fans the first taste of her forthcoming ninth studio album. The release signals Lovato’s return to mainstream pop, following the grittier, rock-focused sound of her previous album.

Lovato had teased the track earlier this month via Instagram, where she lip-synced a few lines from the sultry chorus.

Accompanying the single is a high-octane music video featuring Lovato singing amid a backdrop of burning cars, delivering the powerful chorus:

“I wanna go fast / I wanna go hard / I wanna go anywhere, anywhere you are.”

The track is produced by Zhone, known for work with artists like Kesha, Charli XCX, and Troye Sivan. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Zhone praised Lovato’s creative drive:

“It’s been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up. She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music! It really comes across throughout.”

Fast” follows Lovato’s Revamped, a remix project that reimagined hits from her discography in bold, reenergized formats.

The new single also arrives nearly a year after Lovato made her directorial debut with the documentary Child Star, which explored the complicated realities of growing up famous. The film featured emotional reflections and interviews with stars like Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, Christina Ricci, Kenan Thompson, Raven-Symoné, and Alyson Stoner.

With “Fast,” Demi Lovato isn’t just releasing a new song, she’s kickstarting a new chapter in her evolving artistic journey.
