Tragedy: 10-Month-Old Baby Girl Dies After Family Dog Attack
Pit bull attack leaves infant with fatal injuries; police launch investigation
A devastating incident shook the city of Kiryat Bialik on Friday, as a 10-month-old baby girl was fatally mauled by a pit bull dog belonging to her family.
Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene to find the infant unconscious, without a pulse or breath, suffering from severe injuries to her upper body. They performed resuscitation efforts and evacuated her in critical condition to Rambam Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The dog has been taken into custody by municipal authorities and placed in quarantine, and Israel Police have launched an investigation, with initial findings indicating the attack came from a family-owned dog.
“We arrived and found the baby near her relatives, unconscious and severely wounded,” said MDA medics Amuaj Bakar and Michael Kazan. “We performed CPR and transported her while continuing life-saving efforts. Unfortunately, her condition was critical.”
According to Beterem – Safe Kids Israel, more than 2,500 children were treated for dog bites over the past five years, with 18% under the age of four. The last fatality from such an attack occurred several years ago, involving a one-year-old girl.
