Eyal Assad to Srugim/JFeed: "Israel Must Disconnect the Druze from Syria"

In light of the harsh fighting in Syria and the difficult scenes of massacre against members of the Druze community, Eyal Assad, a Druze activist in religious-Zionist parties, voices a dramatic call: he calls on Israel to establish an independent buffer zone in Suwayda, to disconnect the Druze from the Syrian regime - and to act with Israeli military and political assistance to save lives.

In a special interview with Srugim/JFeed, he explains why this is about a historic alliance between the Druze and the Jews - and why the images coming from the field remind him of the days of the Holocaust.

According to Assad, the reality in southern Syria is unbearable, and the Druze cannot live with this quietly: "Sunni Islam in its conceptions - if you're not Muslim, they want you to have no rights. We're talking about scenes like in the Holocaust: pulling out mustaches from elderly people, like they pulled out sidelocks. Just as the Jews in America tried to do everything to stop the Holocaust - the Druze in the north will also try to do everything. I'm not comparing this to the Holocaust, but these are the same scenes."

"The Regime Wants an Islamic Caliphate"

Assad warns of the true intentions of the Syrian regime: "This regime broadcasts that it wants peace, but the reason is simple: this is an Islamic caliphate that wants to establish itself and grow. If they don't deal with it now - we'll have troubles from there in twenty years. The Druze there won't give up their lands and their religion. They want to do to them what they did to the Alawites and all the minorities."

"Israel is the Only Hope"

In clear words, Assad appeals to the government: "The only chance to save lives there is Israel. There is the principle of alliance with the Druze, and Jewish morality should also push the state to protect the Druze. The government must assist the Druze - with the air force, with whatever is needed. We need to take all the territories in Suwayda, not to annex them or anything, but to turn them into a buffer zone in cooperation with Israel."

"Druze Who Block Roads - Not Criminals"

Assad also addresses the protests in Israel: "The Druze who block roads are not criminals. It hurts them - they see a video of a five-year-old girl being raped, mustaches being pulled from elderly people. I see unqualified identification with the Druze, especially on the right. Everyone supports, tries to help, expresses identification. They spoke a lot with community leaders - there's excellent cooperation."

At the end of the interview, he sends a sharp and clear message: "Israel is now in a dilemma between national interest and moral interest. With the blood covenant between Jews and Druze - it's clear what needs to be done."
