Israeli Tour Guide’s Video Challenges Gaza Genocide Claims with Evidence of Thriving Restaurants

Oren Cahanovitc, an Israeli tour guide and YouTube advocate, has released a new video showcasing restaurants operating in Gaza City during the summer of 2025, directly challenging narratives of genocide in the region. Titled “Top 5 Restaurants in Gaza – Summer 2025 (Genocide Never Tasted So Good),” the video highlights establishments like Snounu Restaurant, which recently relocated to a new location in Gaza City’s Al-Saraya area.
Cahanovitc’s footage, shared widely on platforms like X, ounters claims of widespread starvation and destruction by showing bustling dining scenes, including pizzas being served at Snounu’s new second-floor venue in the Kazem building.
Cahanovitc, a licensed tour guide since 2009 with a Master’s degree in Israeli History from the University of Haifa, shifted his focus to online advocacy after tourism to Israel plummeted following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Previously known for guiding visitors through Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Masada, he now uses his YouTube channel, “Traveling Israel,” to combat what he calls “Palestinian lies” and media misrepresentations. His latest video flies in the face of allegations of genocide leveled by organizations like Amnesty International and the UN Special Committee.
In the video, Cahanovitc argues that the existence of functioning restaurants contradicts claims of a humanitarian crisis severe enough to constitute genocide, as alleged in reports like the UN’s, which documented over 50,500 Palestinian deaths by April 2025 and accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon. He points to social media posts, such as one from @imshin on X, showing Snounu Restaurant’s operations as proof of life continuing in Gaza despite the war.
Cahanovitc’s approach, as seen in prior videos like “Israelis Must Listen to the Other Side,” involves presenting raw evidence—here, Gaza’s culinary activity—to challenge viewers to reconsider dominant narratives. He has a history of provocative claims, asserting that Jews never stole Arab land and questioning why peace was absent before 1967 settlements, often inviting viewers to prove him wrong. Supporters on X, like @GLantenac3, praise his work as “doing G-d’s work.”
Cahanovitc’s footage of Gaza’s restaurants aims to shift the conversation, suggesting a level of normalcy that clashes with reports of famine and displacement affecting over 90% of Gaza’s 1.9 million Palestinians.
