A deadly crash occurred Sunday afternoon on Highway 44 near the village of Kfar Uria, close to Beit Shemesh. The victim, a man in his 50s, had reportedly pulled over due to a technical issue with his car. After stepping out onto the shoulder, he was hit by an oncoming vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Graphic footage from the scene shows a severely damaged vehicle and the victim lying motionless beside it. Paramedics from United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom quickly arrived, but were forced to pronounce his death at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. A 38-year-old woman was also lightly injured in the incident.

United Hatzalah medic Yaakov Goldschmidt reported:

“We were told that the driver exited his vehicle and was struck by another car. Unfortunately, due to the nature of his injuries, his death was declared on-site. The woman driving the vehicle that hit him was treated for minor injuries.”

MDA emergency medics Eli Eisenbach and Yossi Laufer added:

“We saw the man unconscious, without a pulse or breath, suffering from massive trauma. We were told he had pulled over due to a technical malfunction and was hit by a passing car. His injuries were critical, and we had no choice but to pronounce him dead. We evacuated a 38-year-old woman in light condition.”

United Hatzalah spokesperson Nachman Tobal issued a public warning:

“Drivers should take every safety precaution when stopping on the roadside. Whenever possible, avoid pulling over on active highways, as these situations often lead to fatal accidents.”
