Trump may have a point. Now is not the time for Netanyahu to be embroiled in any trials, deserved or not.

U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee strutted into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial on Wednesday, waving a Bugs Bunny stuffed toy like a diplomatic mic drop. The cartoonish prop was no random gag: it was a sly dig at Case 1000, one of the legal thorns in Bibi’s side, and a loud shout-out to President Donald Trump’s claim that the trial’s nothing but a “politically motivated witch hunt.”

The Case 1000 Lowdown

Case 1000, dubbed the “Gifts Affair,” has prosecutors accusing Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, of living the high life on someone else’s dime, raking in over $200,000 in goodies from 2007 to 2016. We’re talking cigars, champagne, jewelry, and a giant Bugs Bunny plush Sara allegedly requested for their son, Yair, back in 1996 from Hollywood bigwig Arnon Milchan and Aussie billionaire James Packer.

The state says Bibi paid back the generosity with political favors, like pushing for Milchan’s U.S. visa and a tax break called the “Milchan Law.” Netanyahu’s team is calling it a big nothingburger, insisting the gifts were just friendly gestures between pals.

Huckabee’s bunny-toting entrance was pure theater, spotlighting the prosecution’s obsession with a stuffed toy to paint the case as flimsy and politically charged. With Trump itching to nix the trial or slap a pardon on his buddy Bibi, Huckabee’s move was a star-spangled flex of U.S. support for Israel’s embattled leader.

Netanyahu’s still dodging legal bullets in Cases 2000 and 4000, facing bribery, fraud, and breach of trust charges that have Israel’s political scene hotter than a desert summer. Huckabee’s Bugs Bunny cameo added a dash of Looney Tunes to the grim proceedings, proving diplomacy can have a sense of humor.
