Today, the IDF’s Paratroopers Brigade Combat Team, under Division 36’s command, completed a two-month operation in Khan Younis, Gaza, targeting Hamas’s terrorist infrastructure. The elite unit engaged in close-quarters combat, eliminating dozens of terrorists in face-to-face encounters and coordinating with the Israeli Air Force to destroy military compounds, weapons caches, explosives, and other terror assets.

Working alongside the Yahalom Unit, the paratroopers demolished several underground tunnels used by Hamas and other terrorist groups to smuggle weapons and plan attacks. In one operation, the brigade swiftly encircled and neutralized a group of Hamas operatives before they could approach IDF forces, showcasing their tactical precision. “Our forces will continue to act decisively to protect Israel’s citizens, especially those in the Gaza envelope,” an IDF spokesperson stated, emphasizing the mission’s role in securing southern Israel.

The operation, part of the broader Iron Swords War sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and took 251 hostages, targeted Khan Younis as a Hamas stronghold. The IDF released footage and images showing the destruction of terror infrastructure, tunnel networks, and combat operations, including the real-time elimination of terrorists. The Paratroopers Brigade, known for its rapid-response capabilities, will now shift to counter-terrorism duties in Judea and Samaria, where Hamas has intensified attacks, with over 1,200 incidents reported in 2025. Social media posts on X praised the operation, with one user stating, “Paratroopers crushed Hamas in Khan Younis, heroes keeping Israel safe!” Southern Command forces remain deployed in Gaza to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety of Israel’s border communities, amidst ongoing threats from Hamas’s 13,000-strong rocket arsenal and Iran-backed proxies.
