What Did 400 Missiles Do to Israel? The Real Toll of Iran’s Attack Revealed
Iran’s 12-day missile assault on Israel, in response to Operation Rising Lion, caused $1.3 billion in property damage, killed 28 civilians, and displaced thousands. The attacks, which struck key cities and overwhelmed defenses, have prompted a massive response effort to address widespread destruction and support affected families.

Iran’s relentless 12-day missile bombardment, launched in retaliation for Israel’s Operation Rising Lion on June 13, 2025, caused unprecedented property damage across Israel, totaling 4.5 billion shekels ($1.3 billion). The barrage, involving over 400 missiles, overwhelmed air defenses, striking central Israel hardest and leaving a trail of devastation. The attacks, which ended with a ceasefire on June 24, 2025, killed 28 civilians, injured hundreds, and displaced approximately 15,000 residents, many of whom remain in hotels as their homes face potential demolition.
In Rishon Lezion, a missile strike on June 14 killed two people, wounded 20, and rendered entire apartment buildings uninhabitable, with rescuers saving a three-month-old baby from the rubble. Beersheba suffered extensive damage, including a direct hit on Soroka Medical Center on June 19, which injured 71 people and severely damaged the surgical department. In Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, nine people died, and about 200 were injured, while Bnei Brak mourned four victims, including a 10-year-old boy. The barrage forced millions into bomb shelters, with nearly 40,000 property damage claims flooding Israel’s Tax Authority, overwhelming its compensation system.
To address the crisis, authorities deployed 130 assessment teams to evaluate damaged sites and introduced a digital system allowing families to submit photos for up to 30,000 shekels in immediate aid within 72 hours. At least 30 buildings across Israel require complete demolition due to direct hits or severe structural damage from nearby strikes. The devastation follows Iran’s failed attempt to advance its nuclear program, which Operation Rising Lion crippled, alongside U.S. strikes under Operation Midnight Hammer. The Israeli government is now prioritizing rapid aid distribution and reconstruction while bracing for potential renewed hostilities, given Iran’s ongoing threats and the fragile ceasefire.
