The defense establishment is presently discussing plans for a maneuvering operation in the Gaza Strip, including a possible mass callup of reserves, according to a report today (Monday) by Channel 12 reporter Nitzan Shapira.

The Israeli government has been openly discussing an operation meant to eliminate the remaining Hamas military formations for the past few weeks. Hawkish elements including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich have called for an immediate operation as Israel cannot forever remain on a war footing, while Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz have insisted that more time be given to try and reach a hostage deal acceptable to Israel.

According to Kann reporter Itay Blumenthal, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir approved plans for a major operation last Friday. Furthermore, the IDF is preparing a new humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip between the Morag axis and the Egyptian border, where civilians can move and receive humanitarian aid, which will likely be provided by American companies.
