Opposition leader Yair Lapid responded today to the first documentation of Haredi fighters from within the Gaza Strip, and wrote: "Proud of the Haredi fighters of the Hasmonean Brigade, all of Israel salutes our heroes."

In response, many from the left-wing camp attacked Lapid for this statement and claimed he was pandering to the right. "What's wrong with you? Learn from Yair Golan how not to pander and how not to be a people-pleaser for a shekel. In your pathetic way, you're selling us out to the coalition."

Others wrote to him: "Yair, what exactly are you proud of? Do you know the war objectives?", "Shouldn't give guns to Haredim. Many of them are primitive and blindly obedient, and that's a recipe for disaster. In their eyes, secular people and gentiles aren't really equal. In the end they'll point their weapons at us. Yes, there are some good Haredim, but they won't go to the army. The momentum is disturbingly murderous."

Additional users wrote to him: "No good word for secular people?", or "What exactly are you talking about, shame on you."
