Following the Iranian missile barrage this morning (Thursday), a massive piece of missile debris, reportedly the size of a bus, crashed into a central area of Samaria, intensifying concerns over the lack of civilian protection in the region.

According to the Samaria Regional Council, this incident is part of a growing pattern, with more than 100 missile fragments and intercept debris having landed across the area since the war’s outbreak, including strikes on homes, vehicles, schools, and synagogues.

Local officials report that tens of thousands of residents in Samaria’s settlements live without adequate protection, many in older, vulnerable neighborhoods lacking reinforced rooms or shelters. Despite repeated appeals over the years, the government has yet to respond with a formal protection plan for the area.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, blasted the Ministry of Defense, calling the lack of action “borderline irresponsible.” He is now demanding an emergency fortification plan mirroring the one implemented for frontline communities in the north and south, where residents are eligible for state-funded protection grants of up to 132,000 NIS per household.

“Tens of thousands of people in Judea and Samaria, which have now become key missile target zones, remain exposed,” Dagan said. “Every night, intercept debris falls on homes, schoolyards, and synagogues. The government must urgently approve funding for public shelters and reinforce existing homes.”

He urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately implement a protection policy modeled after the 'Northern Shield' plan, ensuring Judea and Samaria receive the same treatment as any other frontline in Israel. “If the security establishment defines Judea and Samaria as part of the front, the residents here must be protected accordingly,” Dagan said.
