A Persian-language X account, widely believed to be linked to Israel’s Mossad, revealed Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi as the new commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the unified combatant command of the Iranian Armed Forces. The disclosure followed Iran’s Tasnim News Agency announcing that the regime would withhold the commander’s identity “for his protection” after the assassinations of his predecessors, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid and Brigadier General Ali Shadmani, in Israeli strikes in June 2025. The account, known as Mossad Farsi, taunted Tehran’s secrecy, stating, “We know exactly what his name is and we are well acquainted with him. Unfortunately, such basic information is hidden from the people of Iran.” It invited followers to guess the commander’s name, sparking over 2,300 responses.

By July 2, Mossad Farsi declared exiled Iranian journalist Behnam Gholipour the “lucky winner who managed to uncover the name,” urging him to “contact us privately to claim your prize.” Aliabadi, 63, a veteran of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), previously served as deputy coordinator of Iran’s General Staff and deputy commander of the IRGC Air Force. He has been sanctioned by the U.S. for his role in Iran’s military and economic projects and once threatened that an Israeli strike would lead to Tehran “destroying Israel within a mere 8 minutes.” The Mossad Farsi account, active since June 25, 2025, has mocked Iranian officials, offered telemedicine to Iranian citizens, and warned against interacting with IRGC assets. It also debunked rumors that Quds Force Commander Esmail Qaani was a Mossad agent, stating, “Qaani is not our spy.”

The account’s unverified ties to Mossad have not been denied by Israel, fueling speculation about its psychological operations. Iran’s recent losses, including 90 military personnel and 16 nuclear scientists in the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict, underscore the stakes of this revelation amid heightened tensions and Iran’s missile strikes on Israel in June 2025.
