The Israeli Supreme Court has authorized the publication of the identity of the left-wing protester arrested for allegedly plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The suspect is 70-year-old Tamar Gershoni.

According to information released Thursday, Gershoni allegedly conspired with others to harm the Prime Minister and discussed the possibility of using an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) to carry out the assassination.

Gershoni was arrested about three weeks ago by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and interrogated by the National Unit for Serious and International Crimes (Lahav 433). She was later released under strict conditions, including restraining orders barring her from approaching the Prime Minister and government facilities. The prosecution is expected to file an indictment against her on Friday for conspiracy to commit a crime and a terrorist act.

Police stated that Gershoni allegedly shared her intentions with acquaintances, tried to recruit fellow protesters, and attempted to gather intelligence on the Prime Minister’s security arrangements. Further details remain under a gag order.

Her attorneys, Guy Arnberg and Giora Silberstein, said they have not yet received the indictment or the supporting evidence and are therefore unable to comment on the charges at this stage.

Minister Miki Zohar responded to the news: “Tamar Gershoni should rot in prison for the rest of her life for attempting to assassinate the Prime Minister, but she’s not the main story. The wild incitement against Prime Minister Netanyahu by public figures and parts of the media nearly led to the murder of the nation's leader. Words have power, and there will always be those who act on incitement.”

He added, “Public figures and media outlets must take responsibility and put an end to this divisive discourse. It could cost us dearly.”

The State Attorney’s Office confirmed that the Tel Aviv District Attorney had filed an indictment on July 24 against Gershoni for attempted conspiracy to commit an aggravated terrorist murder. Alongside the indictment, the prosecution asked the court to lift the gag order on her identity. The district court approved the request. Her lawyers initially appealed to the Supreme Court but later withdrew the petition.

As per the Supreme Court's decision, her married surname, city of residence, and address will remain confidential.
