Justice, At Last: Shay Salami Gets Life Sentence for Murdering His Partner
Convicted of premeditated murder and endangering his daughter, Shay Salami will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Central District Court ruling.

Earlier today (Tuesday), The Central District Court in Lod sentenced Shay Salami to life imprisonment plus two additional years for the aggravated murder of his partner, Yafit Furian, and for assaulting their young daughter. The court also ordered Salami to pay statutory compensation of 258,000 shekels to the children.
The verdict concludes a trial during which Salami was convicted of stabbing Furian to death during the Jewish New Year holiday in 2022 at their home in Rehovot. According to the prosecution, after the fatal stabbing, Salami slashed Furian’s throat and attempted to take his own life by setting fire to the bed where she was lying. The flames caused the daughter, who was sleeping upstairs, to be hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
The court rejected Salami’s claims that the killing was the result of provocation and harassment, finding that the murder was premeditated and deliberate. It ruled that Salami intended to kill Furian and took conscious steps to ensure the act’s completion.
Lior Furian, Yafit’s brother, expressed relief at the ruling, stating, “While no sentence can heal the loss, we feel justice has been served.” He added that the family is committed to caring for Yafit’s children and continuing her legacy.
Attorney Tami Klenberg-Levi, representing the family through the Ministry of Justice’s Legal Aid Department, said the court’s decision sends an important message that severe punishment awaits perpetrators of such crimes. She emphasized the court’s recognition of the trauma suffered by the children due to smoke inhalation and the cumulative sentencing as a meaningful acknowledgment of their suffering.
