Sweden's Deputy Prime Minister, Elisabeth "Ebba" Busch, came out forcefully in defense of Israel in an interview with a local Swedish newspaper. Busch also added and attacked her government's and the European Union's policy against Israel.

Busch, in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, addressed the war in the Gaza Strip and expressed sharp public support for Israel. According to her, "Israel is doing good for the entire world when it tries to neutralize Hamas and dismantle it" – an unusual statement in the Swedish political landscape.

Busch, who also serves as Energy Minister and is one of the senior politicians in the Christian Democrats party (KD), used the interview to criticize her government's policy and the European Union's decision to freeze the trade agreement with Israel following the fighting. "These decisions are not beneficial to Sweden and do not promote peace," she said.

She emphasized that Israel's struggle against Hamas is not only an Israeli interest, but part of the global fight against terrorism: "Hamas is a terrorist organization that threatens not only Israel, but regional and international stability. Its dismantling protects us all," she stated firmly.

These are particularly unusual statements in relation to the political landscape in Sweden, and in the European Union in general. Especially when her government's policy tends toward blunt and unrestrained criticism of Israel, and thunderous silence regarding Hamas's actions.
