President Donald Trump is preparing a speech calling for an effort to rebuild the Gaza Strip, on condition Hamas ceases to have any hand in the Strip's governance, according to a report today (Tuesday) by Channel 12 reporter Amit Segal.

According to Segal, the speech will promise significant US funding and leadership in rebuilding the devastated Strip, and the condition of Hamas no longer ruling is meant to increase pressure on Hamas from among the Gaza population. This plan faces opposition from some Middle Eastern countries, especially Qatar, considered by many to be Hamas' patron along with Iran.

This decision implies that the President has effectively sidelined his original plan to allow for the mass relocation of the Gazan population to other countries, which he tried without success to sell to multiple countries around the world. Israel even established an administration within the Defense Ministry with the aim of aiding those interested in leaving to do so, but thus far with paltry results.

According to multiple reports, the United States and Israel have concluded that Hamas is entirely uninterested in a hostage deal acceptable to Israel, and have stuck to their insistence that any deal involve a full IDF withdrawal from the Strip, mass funding of the rebuilding of the Strip, and Hamas remaining in charge of the Strip as the ruling party. They have also repeatedly demanding the opening of the border crossings, so that they can rearm after the almost two year war with the IDF.

The Prime Minister is reportedly convening the cabinet this Thursday to discuss IDF operations to occupy the whole Gaza Strip, a plan opposed by IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.
