A 35-year-old man was killed on Monday, July 28, 2025, in a tragic accident at Shamir Medical Center (formerly Assaf Harofeh) in Be’er Ya’akov, near Rishon Lezion, when a heavy tree branch fell on him, according to Ynet. The man, whose identity has not been released, had accompanied his pregnant wife to the hospital, a major teaching facility affiliated with Tel Aviv University’s Sackler Faculty of Medicine, as she was in labor. He stepped outside to buy a bottle of water at an adjacent mall when the incident occurred around midday.

Emergency services, including firefighters and volunteers from the ZAKA search and rescue organization, rushed to the scene. They used hydraulic instruments to lift the tree branch off the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Ynet reported. Local authorities have described the incident as a tragic accident, with no further details released about the cause of the tree’s collapse.

The Shamir Medical Center expressed its condolences to the family in a statement, noting that it is cooperating fully with authorities investigating the incident.
