U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee strongly denounced statements circulating on Arabic-language social media that encouraged setting fires in Israel, calling out the incitement as morally reprehensible.

“Israelis live every day with constant threats from uncivilized savages like Hamas seeking to murder civilians & destroying even the trees,” Huckabee tweeted. He further charged that there was “no respect for life, whether people or trees,” referencing both terror groups and Arab media outlets promoting arson.

The remarks come as Israel's internal security agency, the Shin Bet, investigates suspicions that the massive wildfires in the Jerusalem Hills may have been caused by a terrorist arson attack. On Wednesday, police arrested a man from eastern Jerusalem on suspicion of attempting to ignite a fire in a field near the city.
