Today (Sunday), the IDF foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Israel from Egypt using a drone. According to an IDF spokesperson, surveillance in the Paran Brigade area detected an unmanned aerial vehicle crossing the border from southwest, carrying a suspicious payload.

IDF soldiers were dispatched to the location, located the drone, and successfully took control of it. A preliminary inspection revealed 10 rifles and 6 magazines, which were believed to be intended for smuggling into Israeli territory.

All confiscated weapons were handed over for further investigation by security forces to determine their origin, destination, and the identity of those involved in the smuggling attempt.

The IDF emphasized that in recent years, there has been a significant increase in the use of drones for smuggling both drugs and weapons along the Egypt-Israel border. "This is a developing threat that is receiving tailored technological and operational responses," the IDF said.

A security source noted that the quick interception of the weapons prevented them from reaching hostile groups, adding, "The ability to intercept weapons from the air in real-time is part of the IDF's preparedness to thwart any attempt to harm Israel’s security."
