Mayor Eric Adams said recently in a podcast interview that he considered Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to have "hurtful" policies but that he did not dislike him as a person, according to a report by JNS yesterday (Monday).

Speaking on Nayeema Raza's Smart Girl Dumb Questions podcast, Adams said that he would "probably" prefer to be stuck in an elevator with Mamdani rather than Andrew Cuomo or Republican Curtis Sliwa, the other two candidates for mayor.

Adams said that “We had dinner together. We had a good conversation. His dad came. He came. We had a great conversation. You could disagree without being disagreeable. We just philosophically disagree. I think his policies are hurtful. I think they’re not fully flushed out, and they don’t understand the ramification. But I’m not saying that I dislike a person.”

The mayor then went on to describe his clear opposition to any form of hatred in New York, whether it's against Jews after October 7, Asians during COVID, or Muslims after 9/11. Adams himself adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism as New York policy, though frontrunner Mamdani is likely to abandon it.

According to current polls, Mamdani is running ahead of all others, including Adams, although he has not reached 50% in polling in a multi-candidate race.
