American, Delta Airlines Ground Pilots Who Celebrated Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
People who were brazen and awful enough to post videos on social media celebrating Charlie Kirk's murder are finding out that actions really do have consequences.

American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have grounded multiple pilots and employees following social media posts celebrating the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The suspect, 28-year-old Tyler Robinson of Provo, is in custody facing first-degree murder charges.
The controversy erupted after X users flagged inflammatory posts from airline staff, including an alleged comment by an American Airlines pilot mocking Kirk’s death. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced American’s actions on September 13, condemning the posts as “disgusting” and calling for the pilots’ permanent dismissal. American Airlines issued a statement: “We condemn violence of any kind. Hate-related or hostile behavior is unacceptable, and we have taken immediate action to address this with our team.” The airline confirmed grounding several pilots pending internal investigations but did not disclose specifics.
Delta Air Lines, on September 12, suspended employees, including pilots, for similar violations. CEO Ed Bastian’s companywide memo stated the posts violated Delta’s values of “integrity, care, and servant leadership,” warning of potential terminations. Both airlines are navigating union considerations, as pilots are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).
The incident reflects broader fallout, with firings reported across sectors, including media, retail, and the military, over similar disgraceful remarks.
The Trump administration has vowed to address foreign nationals praising the killing, while the Pentagon is reviewing service members’ conduct. Kirk’s funeral is set for September 21 in Glendale, Arizona, with President Trump expected to attend.
