Two British Army soldiers, Signallers Zakariya Munir, 22, and Mohammed Salah, 34, from the 10th Signal Regiment, were dismissed Yesterday following convictions at Bulford Military Court in Wiltshire for sharing graphic footage of Hamas’s October 7, 2023, massacre, which killed 1,200 Israelis and abducted 251. The soldiers, who served since 2021 and 2019 respectively, were found guilty of sending offensive messages on a public network, despite denying the charges. Court documents revealed that on October 8, Munir contacted Salah, stating he had videos of the attack “that they won’t be shown in the media,” warning they were “a bit graphic” and suggesting Salah find more on Telegram. Lieutenant Colonel Felicity Bryson, prosecuting, described the footage as montages of Hamas terrorists “interspersed with dead civilians lying in pools of blood,” showing “faces and bodies of corpses being searched and being kicked by the cameraman” and “a group of young men shoving and urinating on elderly men who had their heads bagged and hands tied.”

Defense attorneys sought leniency, with Fiona Edington calling Munir “a young and naive soldier who has become susceptible to peer pressure,” noting his colonel’s view that he was a developing soldier with potential. James Hay, defending Salah, highlighted his client’s extreme anxiety, citing instances of vomiting and hyperventilating post-arrest. Judge Advocate General Alan Large rejected these pleas, stating, “You sent messages to each other about the Oct 7 attacks. There is nothing sinister about that. However, you then contacted him with videos, saying, ‘You won’t see this in the media.’ This all happened in the context of events that were globally important.” Large emphasized military standards, saying, “You were both serving members of the British Army, and when you sign up for that there are certain values that you must adhere to.” Both soldiers attempted to shield their faces from photographers outside court. Posts on X condemned their actions, with one user stating, “Sharing Hamas’s atrocities is indefensible, good riddance.” The case underscores the ongoing global impact of the October 7 attack, and the role terror supporters share in using horrific coverage of the massacre to further their 'cause.'
