Severe terror events are being reported today from two ends of the world – in the United States and Syria, with two almost simultaneous attacks targeting churches. In the city of Wayne, Michigan, a person opened fire at worshippers in a church and wounded several worshippers before being shot and killed.
Simultaneously, a severe suicide attack occurred at a church near Damascus, Syria, with reports of dozens killed. As of now, it's unclear if there's a connection between the events, but speculation that this is part of a broad Iranian response to the American attack in Iran is already beginning to spread.
In the US, reports describe a mass shooting event at a church in the town of Wayne in the state of Michigan. According to initial reports, the attacker – whose identity has not yet been released – entered the church during prayer and opened fire at those present. Several people were wounded, some seriously, before armed citizens shot the attacker and eliminated him on the spot. The shooter's motives and identity are still unknown, but authorities are investigating whether this was an incident with religious or ideological background.
In Syria, outside Damascus, a suicide bomber blew himself up during a religious ceremony at a local church. According to reports in Arab media, at least 25 people were killed and dozens more wounded. The attack scene was closed off by Syrian security forces, and so far no organization has claimed official responsibility.
