Major Democratic leaders in Congress and elsewhere are struggling to coalesce around a party response to Operation Midnight Hammer, the United States' strike against Iran's nuclear weapons sites.
Pro-Israel stalwarts such as Democratic Senator John Fetterman openly praised the strike, saying that "As I’ve long maintained, this was the correct move by POTUS. Iran is the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism and cannot have nuclear capabilities. I’m grateful for and salute the finest military in the world."
Meanwhile, Trump critics such as Senator Chris Murphy have openly criticized the rationale of the operation, claiming that Iran was not indeed on the brink of making multiple nuclear weapons as intelligence suggested.
Most - including House and Senate minority leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer - appear to have coalesced around the argument that what Trump did was unconstitutional under existing war powers and demanded that Trump explain his actions "to the American people," avoiding direct criticism of the operation itself.
