Lindsey Graham Headed To Beirut
The powerful South Carolina Senator is reportedly headed to the country to help pressure Lebanon into disarming Hezbollah.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is heading to Beirut tomorrow (Monday) together with American envoy Morgan Ortagus and US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, according to a report today by i24 News.
According to the report, Graham's arrival, as one of the Republican majority's chief hawks and Chairman of the Budget Committee, is meant to send a clear signal of seriousness and determination to force Lebanon to truly disarm Hezbollah.
Barrack has reportedly been trying to pressure Israel to withdraw from one of its five outposts along the Lebanese side of the northern border and curb its air strikes against Hezbollah as a sign of Israeli seriousness and good faith and to give Lebanon the needed breathing space and legitimacy to have its army disarm Hezbollah.
For its part, Hezbollah has consistently refused to voluntarily disarm, and according to the IDF, it continues to try and rebuild its terrorist infrastructure, including manpower and weapons, in southern Lebanon, contrary to the ceasefire agreement.
Iran has also given Hezbollah its full backing, much to the consternation of the Lebanese government, which protested the interference in its internal affairs.
Hezbollah has claimed that its weapons threaten no one, and that handing over the weapons of the terrorist group to the Lebanese government would be the same as handing them over to Israel.
For its part, the Trump administration has been pressuring the Lebanese government very hard to make serious efforts to disarm Hezbollah, as part of the American administration's efforts to promote peace in the region.
Israeli officials have largely remained silent on the question of Lebanon in recent months, allowing the United States and Lebanon to manage the matter on their own.
