Shocking Footage: Lion Attacks Woman and Children in Pakistani Street — Three Seriously Injured
Despite being legal in Pakistan, owning a lion just turned deadly. Police arrest the owner after predator mauls a mother and her two kids.
Startling footage from the streets of Lahore, Pakistan, captured the terrifying moment when a domesticated lion lunged at a woman and her two children in broad daylight, leaving all three with serious injuries.
The lion, reportedly raised by its owner as a household pet, suddenly turned violent while roaming the street unleashed. The victims were rushed to a local hospital, where doctors managed to stabilize their condition. All three are now out of immediate danger.
While owning lions and other exotic predators is technically legal in Pakistan—so long as the animal is registered and fees are paid—local laws prohibit dangerous wildlife from being kept within city limits. Authorities say the owner had no valid license and failed to properly contain the animal, leading to its escape.
Eyewitnesses claim the lion's owners stood by without attempting to stop the attack, fueling public outrage. The father of the injured children told reporters that “they just watched as the lion tore into them, doing absolutely nothing to help.”
Police have since arrested the lion’s owner on charges of criminal negligence and illegal possession of a wild animal. The lion was tranquilized shortly after the attack and transferred to a local wildlife park.
Pakistan is one of the few countries where big cats like lions, leopards, cheetahs, pumas, and jaguars can be kept as pets legally—provided the owner pays a one-time registration fee of 50,000 Pakistani rupees (roughly $176 USD).
The horrifying attack has reignited debate across Pakistan over the country’s exotic pet laws, with many calling for stricter enforcement and a total ban on keeping apex predators in urban settings.
Footage of the attack, circulating online, has triggered widespread alarm across social media platforms.
